CISonly

On a recent walk through downtown Toronto – Canada’s hub for multicultural values and tolerance – I encountered an interesting sign. Outside an “anarchist collective” known as Bike Pirates, a chalkboard was adorned with the words “Sunday: We are Open for CisWomen and Trans Folks.”

Not being privy to the hip lexicon of today’s sexual warriors, I had to look up what “cis” meant on my phone. It turns out, people who think of themselves as boy or girl based on biology and anatomy – you know, science and common sense – are from here on out to be referred to as “cis.” And here I thought “man” or “woman” were adequate enough to convey that meaning. I guess my capitalist logic got in the way of that one.

Besides the mind-numbing neologism employed, the sign is interesting for another reason: it represents the complete cognitive dissonance within progressives. It’s doubtful a conservative or libertarian business uses such language on its advertisements. We tend to be brief with words because time is money. Parsing out what phrases offend and which are fine doesn’t cross our mind because we understand that being offended is not an injustice but fact of life. Also, it’s because we know businesses thrive that don’t explicitly discriminate against consumers.

And that’s exactly what the sign in question is doing: discrimination. It points out two sects of people that are allowed to be served on Sunday. It doesn’t say that straight while males are prohibited from the premises. But the language employed goes out of the way to name two distinct groups of people while seemingly offering preferential treatment.

For proponents of private property, this is not a problem. As a business owner, you should have the right to discriminate all you would like. It’s your property after all. But just imagine if the sign said “We are Open for Whites on Saturday” or “Christians served on Fridays.” The liberal outrage would be deafening. There would be marches in the streets, screaming talking heads on television, lawsuits, and a grand court case to decide the very future of humanity based on one bigoted store owner.

The outrage would make no sense, but then again, there is little sense to make of the progressive worldview. They see discrimination as negative when it affects minorities but as a plus when it boosts the victim status of certain groups. If discrimination is bad, then it should be bad overall. But don’t try explaining that to a self-righteous leftist. He or she may ban you from their place of business.

So transgender people are not normal? You’re typical cis scum.

  2. Alec Leamas says:

It’s not discrimination – it’s a “safe space” – which is entirely different.

  3. If I considered a whites-only movie theater or club or bar a “safe place,” would that be ok?

  4. Christine Keeler says:

Kathy Shaidle: NO! The term is “safe space.” (Not to mention “theatre.” This pandering to American spelling can only be described.)

  5. Chang says:

Christine shouts “NO!”, offers no explanation, and moves to subtly insult Kathy’s intelligence. For being such a sensitive (cis/trans) woman or man, you sure are rude.

  6. DooDoo Brownstein says:

I wonder if a “Whites welcome” sign would be received in the same way…

  7. Josh says:

What exactly is that space “safe” from?

  8. spotes says:

How exactly are they checking for transgenders at the door?
    TSA agents?

  9. A guy says:

Any sign that helps me avoid sitting in a room full of people who’ve paid thousands of dollars to have their dicks folded inside out is A-OK by me.

  10. Dick Richard says:

Is it wrong to admit that I would have boner if I worked in that safe space? The lesbo orgy thing sounds amazing to me…Coffee ?

  11. Thanks Chang, but that’s pretty typical of these types.

Their hypersensitivity about imaginary “rights” and minor linguistic “transgressions” is all they have. You’ll notice none of these trannies/whatever are successful in any field other than “activism,” or the “arts,” where the barriers to entry are almost non-existent.

I knew what “safe spaces” were when “Christine” was still reading about the knitting revival in “Bitch” magazine, and 10 years before that. S

omeone who names themselves after a stupid bint who blew rich guys then took the rap telegraphs everything you need to know about them.

And, er, it didn’t answer my question, so.

This is just fucking retarded. These folks are so full of themselves it’s ridiculous.I’ve a good mind to go down there and take an axe to that sign!

  14. Chris says:

I’ve got an extra axe if you need, Bob.

  15. Giorgio Prager says:

“theatre” or “theater” – this is a centuries old variant, so both spellings are entirely kosher (oops, that’s pandering to Yiddish)

  16. Ben says:

“I’ve a good mind to go down there and take an axe to that sign!”

That would be the reasonable thing to do.

  17. thepulloutking says:

Looking forward to the day that sexual preference and/or what’s going on with your genitals isn’t enough, by itself, to deem all the special unique little snowflakes “activists,” and rebels, and artists, and oppressed minorities, etc., simply for the act of existing. Just kidding, I know they’ll never relinquish the “victim” card.

  18. Trayvon Fartin says:

If these people need a ‘safe space’ then all the working class whites living in areas where black-on-white violence happens at disproportionate rates should have safe spaces too.

  19. DragropeJustice says:

Fuck Canada. But this little corner of it deserves to be fucked harder than the rest.

  20. Gargamel says:

Canada, in its entirety, is a safe place. That is, until we completely ruin the United States and we (undocumented immigrants) begin flooding across the border…demanding our free healthcare.
