Having Jim Goad edit your weekly column is like having the Soup Nazi judge your lunch every day. I did this thing on people who have lost their jobs for being Politically Incorrect and I wanted to include the Ashton Kutcher and and the Mary J. Blige ads but noooooo. Fact Hitler says they didn’t lose their jobs so I can’t use it. I say the campaign was killed so that particular job, advertising fried chicken for Burger King or being the spokesmen for Pop Chips is over so that job is gone. Besides, the money that gets flushed down the toilet when these ads are killed loses dozens of other jobs from key grips on shoots to graphic designers designing the print campaign. Details McStalin comes back with, “That’s really, really, really, really, stretching it.”

Fine, I’ll put it here on this site. He can’t do anything about that and he never will. In your face Benito Goad!

MARY J BLIGE

In April, this brutally overrated R&B singer did an ad for Burger King that included fried chicken. She was dressed as some kind of weird punk rockabilly but members of the black community criticized the ad as being “stereotypical” and the ad was pulled. Ten years ago, Dave Chappelle said, “Where are all these people who don’t like Chicken and Watermelon? I’m sick of hearing about how bad it is. It’s great! I’m waiting for Chicken to approach me to do a commercial, nigga. I’ll do it for free Chicken!”

ASHTON KUTCHER

Last week, the charisma-challenged Kutcher made the mistake of putting brown on his face while portraying an Indian and was immediately canned. Nobody could explain exactly why this was wrong or why his portrayal was singled out. Nobody complained when Peter Sellers did it in 1968 or when Mike Meyers did it in 2008. They didn’t even mind when Robert Downey Jr. dressed in blackface and slapped a black man for saying “nigger.” The only people who should have been offended by this ad are the Funny Community.

There are Ten More on Takimag.com but this one makes my fucking head spin.

  3. RED says:

Ashton and Blige still got paid. All the others were out of a paycheck when they got fired. It’s not like Blige wanted to do her chicken character for the rest of her life. It was a one off and she was well compensated. You’re wrong. Jim’s right.

  4. tommy gun says:

yeah gotta go with Goad on this one. better to be rigorous and set a strict standard, especially here when you take positions that will be heavily criticized.

  5. Late to the Race but still in First Place says:

    Uhhh… sarcasm guys?

That Indian dude needs to stop being so butt hurt as well. Yeah, your race gets stereotyped all the time, Asians too, but so does EVERY RACE IN HISTORY. How many shows are there just based on making fun of rednecks in America? Way more than Indians are stereotyped. Easily. But if anyone were to stand up for the hillbillies everyone would laugh, do it for any other sub group and it’s applauded.

  6. lester says:

look what they’ve done with the title “slaveholder”. like it’s BAD thing

  7. itchypeach says:

WELL ITS OBVIOUSE THAT ‘???’ IS JUST AN NYC LIB, TYPICLE, DOES’NT CARE ABOUT THE WORKING MAN
WELL GAVIN MACINES IS THE ONLY WRITER, ON THIS WEB SIGHT, WHO CARE ABOUT THE UNEMPLOYMET

  10. damn says:

hey fag who compared being indian to being a redneck. do you understand how fallacious that analogy is? obviously if one white guy wanted to go from redneck to normal guy, he is one wardrobe change away. being indian is something you cannot really walk away from, nor would you really want to.

indians are statistically the richest minority in america, and consequently, i think, as a people, hold more power and have more of a voice when it comes to their race being made fun of. but just cause you guys are thinking this guy is “just being butthurt”, just know that whenever you racially stereotype a stranger, especially in the national media, in such a blatant, embarrassing way, there are minorities of that race who are just FUCKING GROANING, not again.

p.s im indian. growing up in america.

  11. Shit4Brains says:

^ Dothead here is performing logical fallacio by assuming every “redneck” can afford a “wardrobe change,” much less new teeth and an urban apartment. Pretty typical to presume every white person in America is as rich as the ones who can afford to live in NYC. Quit your “groaning” and your theatrical masquerading as an oppressed individual when you know you’re a billion times more privileged than some untouchable screaming for food on a dirty street in Mumbai or some hillbilly trying to eke out an existence in Appalachia.

  12. busted says:

    ^^^ burn.

  13. mahheadspins says:

    Dang Gav,
Jobs aren’t lost when these ads get pulled; someone else will fill the spot. Yeah, there will be more ads produced when others go down, man. Or maybe you were being ironic to the point where I got confused. Anyhow, Ashton is a hack who was never funny and people hate him for it. Was his ad distasteful and racist, yea. Why did others “get away with it?” That is because it is no longer cool to make fun of a marginalized group like it was in previous years. Dummy.

  14. Gavin says:

    @Maheadspins
Love Guru’s brownface and Robert Downey Jr’s blackface were 2008. Did “no longer cool” happen in the past 4 years? Ever notice how the people with the weakest arguments are the ones yelling things like “dummy” and “go read a book”?

  15. Late to the Race but still in First Place says:

@ butthurt Indian commenter. A wardrobe change away? So they can just change their accent, their mannerisms, their choice of words, etc? Just watch A&E, Animal Planet, National Geographic and other channels and just see how many shows built around Redneck stereotypes there are. Hillbilly Handfishin’, American Hoggers, Redneck Riviera, Rocket City Rednecks, hell even a comedy like Eastbound & Down. Now… what if there were 5+ TV shows called, Bollywood Bodegas, Dot Head Doctors, etc. etc. You think just because the rednecks are white they are not judged every day or stereotyped immediately? Like I originally said, it’s way safer to make fun of redneck stereotypes than Indian stereotypes, and it is. I don’t see random rednecks making YouTube videos about these shows and how they stereotype their kind as dumb, bumbling backwards idiots. Also, I like how you called me a fag, Indian, growing up in America. Good one.
