We started an all-celeb 80s Hardcore cover band called “80s Hardcore” but Andrew WK is in Texas on July 4th, Terry Richardson is having his own party, Mike Fellows doesn’t want to do it if Andrew isn’t, and Matt Sweeney said, “Are you fucking kidding me?” So we just used our real friends
We started an all-celeb 80s Hardcore cover band called “80s Hardcore” but Andrew WK is in Texas on July 4th, Terry Richardson is having his own party, Mike Fellows doesn’t want to do it if Andrew isn’t, and Matt Sweeney said, “Are you fucking kidding me?” So we just used our real friends. We’re playing July 4th at The Yard in Brooklyn and July 6th at the Charleston in Brooklyn.
We’ve learned a lot in the three days it took to prepare for the show.
1- Bad Brains is impossible.
2- So is “Institutionalized” (how the fuck does the rest of the band know when the chorus is coming?)
3- Screaming hardcore gives you a BRUTAL headache.
4- The drummer from Built to Spill is not fast enough.
I’d like to ad “’Jealous Again’ is a too deep of a cut” as #5 on the list but the rest of the band refuses to admit it.
Dear Rest of Band,
Nobody knows “Jealous Again.” We are a cover band. We are not here to entertain ourselves. We are here to entertain the audience and that includes girls. There is not a female on earth that is familiar with pre-Rollins Black Flag. They only know “Gimme Gimme Gimme,” “Rise Above,” “TV Party,” “Six Pack” and “Wasted.” Thanks to Greg Ginn’s relentless noodling, most of those songs are impossible. “Wasted” is fast, cheap and easy and the show is tomorrow for fuck’s sakes!
Anyway, we go on around 7PM on July 4th and it’s at
400 Carroll St.,
btw. Bond and Nevins
Here’s more info for the July 4th show from the guy organizing it…
