This is great but I’m disturbed by how many people love the idea of not working. We’ve evolved to derive pleasure from hard work. Why is it everyone’s dream to sit around in a bathrobe all day watching TV?

Even traveling gets boring when you do it too much. It’s basically all about food. You go and look at a statue and then talk about where you’re going to eat that night. I’d rather run a restaurant. In fact, I’d rather work at some shitty job in Ireland than go visit it as a tourist. It would be way more fulfilling and you’d learn way more about the country. We need to start glorifying work and putting entrepreneurs on a pedestal again. In the 1950s even salesmen were cool. Now they’re seen as slimeballs trying to hustle you into buying a used car. Working hard and making money are cool. Retiring at any age is dull.

And don’t give me that shit about “a living wage” and how work today is more akin to slavery. You’re not supposed to raise a family working at McDonald’s. That job is for teenagers, recent immigrants, and bored seniors. You’re not supposed to be hanging your fry hat in the lobby and yelling, “Hi honey, I’m home” to a room full of kids. We’ve got a great set up here. Let’s stop walking around Time Square all night looking at ads and get back to work.

What are all these paeans to work these days? 40 hours, 50 hours, 60, 70 a week! And what do we accomplish? Service, quality of products, etc. are shitty. All we do is run around telling everyone how busy we are. Now, I have to finish up that erg report…hahaha

“We’ve evolved to derive pleasure from hard work.”
“Pleasure from work” lmfao. I’d fucking laugh in your face if you said that to me in real life. What a bunch of nonsense.
It’s just a fucking job. Just a means to an end. No need for glorifications.
Also unemployed people don’t like to be unemployed. At least not longterm. It becomes fucking depressing and you slowly lose your mind. Most people don’t want to feel like they’re completely useless to society contrary to your silly ideas.
“Now they’re seen as slimeballs trying to hustle you into buying a used car.”
Well, that’s what they are and that’s what they do.
“I’d rather run a restaurant. In fact, I’d rather work at some shitty job in Ireland than go visit it as a tourist.”
    Buuuullshit.
“Working hard and making money are cool.”
    Are cool.. lol.

if you think people don’t want to be unemployed longterm you need to go to a black neighborhood. I live in one and the mdudes there don’t want a job.the women do and maybe some guys but the majority of guys won’t do anything for themselves

Being a borderline retarded LAPD officer who writes for a blog about clothes “ARE COOL.”

  6. Mac says:

what Ben said. put him in charge

  7. Kennedy says:

Yes, I derive pleasure from the work itself. If you don’t like what you do, do something else. That’s what’s cool about America and that’s why people are dying to get here. Good article.

  8. Ben says:

“If you don’t like what you do, do something else.”

That’s ridiculous. How many people can afford to do THAT? Not a lot, dude.

“That’s what’s cool about America and that’s why people are dying to get here.”

    Pfffft.

  9. Sammy says:

“Why is it everyone’s dream to sit around in a bathrobe all day watching TV?”

Because there is so much quality programming on these days and fabric used in bathrobes has reached a softness level which up until now had only been accessible to kings. Any other questions? Keep asking, its the only way you will learn.

Well of course you have the angry art school rejects (with responses like pffft) who have been told their lives are precious and they deserve a fun and fulfilling run at everything at others expenses, and all the rewards are to be handed to them. They most likely fill their lives with new gadgets made in China by people who would die to live here and chase some semblance of a dream. You see, the world is not just about me or Ben or our own selfish pursuit of happiness, its about becoming and being a part of something bigger than yourself. A family or a craft or some mark you leave on the world that can be seen after you are gone. Does anyone want to be washing dishes for life? But to use it as a means to a temporary end its ok. I paid my way through school, and during that time did construction, bounced in bars, did sales etc..I learned a lot about myself and about the world from each and ever experience I had. I didn’t have the safety net or the erroneous perception that I was worth 6 figures right out of school like many kids these days do. “Man I spent 6 years getting my BA sociology degree…and I just cannot believe I have to start answering phones like a prolo..god USA sucks..”

  11. Ben says:

“Because there is so much quality programming on these days and fabric used in bathrobes has reached a softness level which up until now had only been accessible to kings.”

HOLY SHIT. I OWN A KING ROBE. I’m a fucking KING. HOW FUCKING SWEET IS THAT?!

I never went to fart school. No one has ever told me those things.

“They most likely fill their lives with new gadgets made in China by people who would die to live here and chase some semblance of a dream.”

I don’t own a ridiculous i-phone or dumb video game consoles. The only silly gadget I own is an old, used, scuzzy laptop (not a mac). Everybody has a fuckin computer now anyway so it’s not exactly a crazy luxury. I like to read, listen to music, hang out with my friends, smoke pot now and then and other stuff. That’s what I like to do. What is it that you do that is oh so fuckin profound, dude?? Lol.

“You see, the world is not just about me or Ben or our own selfish pursuit of happiness, its about becoming and being a part of something bigger than yourself.”

What the fuck?? How is happiness a selfish pursuit? Everyone wants to be happy. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be happy you ghoul.

First you attack me with weak insults and then you go on and on and on and on and on and on about your life story and act like it’s an amaaaaazing tale. The fuck is wrong with you??

The point really is that each of us should be trying to better our station in life. If you wish to stay in menial position at something that doesn’t thrill you, ok good for you. But finding your niche or at least something you excellent at and do for money is in fact very rewarding.

I wonder what Ben does for a living?
